Solar Battery Monitor Demo in my home solar system
A demonstration of how a Solar Battery Monitor works. Two 80w panels. The battery bank holds 440 amp hrs. 1000w inverter. The lights in the vid are 14w florescent s which are equivalent to a 60w bulbs. The tv is a 21″. So basically, the 14w lights pull 1amp each and the tv pulls 5 amps, and the inverter pulls .5 amp.

The Amperite solid-state timer I’m using needed 12 volts, so I had to put in a voltage regulator between it and the solar battery, which was putting out 24 volts. The part I’m holding is a 7812 voltage regulator. The Amperite timer is inside the black project box. It has 2 knobs that will allow variable timing of on for 1 to 100 minutes and off 1 to 100 minutes. I’m having it turn the pump on for 1 minute and keep it off for 100 minutes.
Timer is needed to turn the water pump on periodically on my experimental vermiponics flow-through system.

Top down view of my home made solar battery charging box. It’s about 50% done. I know the bottom doesn’t fit right, but this thing is truly hand made- I don’t have proper tools so I had to do the best cuts I could with hand tools and a lot of sanding.

PV Solar system part one the battery bank
I have started building my battery bank that I will be charging with my solar panels. I may be working backwards but because the batteries were available and free I decided to start there. This is four out of the eight batteries I will be using in the bank. I am putting them all in as a twelve volt system so the batteries will be in parallel. I have been debating on running this as twelve volts or twenty four volts so I will start with twelve and switch over to twenty four if it is a better solution.
